4Great light
By Nigel Andrews
CATEYE Single Shot Plus EL-610RC Rechargeable Front Light This is a great light for it's size. The bright front light in flashing mode is particularly noticeable by pedestrians you are approaching from behind, as they can see their flashing shadow and turn to see what it is. This doesn't happen with smaller less powerful flashing front lights. Beam spread is fine to see any possible obstructions to avoid such as objects or potholes you are approaching. I alternate from flashing mode to constant as I ride, as circumstances change. You only need it in constant mode when in dark unlit areas. This light is very noticeable by oncoming traffic, as it is quite bright and can't be ignored. Great for when cars are reversing out of drives, they slam on the brakes as they don't quite know what's coming.

5Great road coverage!
By JonathanRippon
I've been using the EL610 for 2 weeks now and am very happy with my purchase. I'm a road cyclist who cycles down country roads with no lighting, so need good road coverage.Plus Points:- [1] Gives a nice wide beam (about 2m wide) with plenty of length when tilt angle is adjusted correctly. You can focus it closer up for brighter/shorter beam if that's what you prefer. [2] The light detaches from the bracket easily for removal when parked. [3] The bracket fits easily to the front bar and has a thumb wheel for tightening which makes adjustments easy without the need of any tools. The bracket seems of adequate quality for road cycling but time will tell (I have seen complaints about it breaking!).Minus Points:- [1] The batteries are self contained and you have to plug it into a charger. Would have preferred removable batteries!

5Excellent for commuting
By That guy in the dark
Background. My commute is half canal, quarter unlit (fast) country roads and quarter urban streets. 35 mile round trip, twice per week. The light has three modes, high beam, low beam and flashing. The handlebar mount uses a flexible ridged strap with a thumb-wheel to tighten it up. The light can be turned a few degrees left-right to illuminate one kerb or the other (ideal on canal tow paths). The mount for the light provides a very positive 'click' when it latches.ReviewThere was some criticism in the past of the mounting strap being flimsy, but that appears to have been addressed, mine is well sturdy. The unit itself quite heavy but the battery pack is fairly high capacity. Do make sure when its positively latched when you clip it on. It would be expensive if it fell off.You may wish to just wipe a bit of WD-40 on the mount as when new its very dry and quite stiff to get on and off.Charging. When I got it, I followed the charging instructions but it seemed that it had been supplied fully charged, the instructions could be written more clearly but you'll get there, read them carefully. In use.So far 5 journeys, 15 hours of use, mostly in low beam in the dark and flashing in urban lit areas and I haven't had to recharge it yet, so I'm well happy. I did however tighten the top screw in the handlebar mount so that it takes a little more effort to turn it left or right. On unlit country roads, low beam is more than enough to see the kerb or verge or importantly the edge of the canal!, and with the main part of the beam set about 6 metres in front, gives me enough time to avoid pot holes, flat animals or water! In this scenario high beam is pointless but useful to have. I have one steep downhill section and I use highbeam to see that bit further.I have found that oncoming cars almost universally dip their lights when they see me, those who don't are just ignorant. I have also been flashed myself a couple of times.Would I use this light for bouncing around a forest at night? No. its not suited for that level of abuse.Criticisms: When taking it off, the release latch is a bit awkward to get at especially with cold fingers, but its ok.The charger unit is stupidly big, I take it with me to charge at work if necessary and in comparison with the tidy little 'blocks' that you get with mobile phones, this is ridiculous. When mobile, obviously space is at a premium, if you don't need this, then no issue. It is however really light.Overall. For serious winter commuting, I think this is the best value light you could get, long burn time, 3 hours high beam, 9 hours low beam, 36 hours flashing, quick recharge time 4 hours - although I haven't needed to do this yet.Would I buy it again? You bet!
